Does anybody know where to get time-series data on education?

my boyfriend is trying to obtain data to do a statistical ysis for his dissertation but can't find anything. He is mainly looking for data which shows what the highest level of education people have achieved over the last 50 yrs ish. If anyone can help, that would be great.
